STUDIO PRODUCTION: IDEA GENERATION

Myself and Simon Lawrence are in a group together to pitch an idea for the Studio Production. I had considered the idea of a Dating Show which aims to the LGBT community, as the only dating show currently being broadcasted which supports LGBT is 'Naked Attraction'. However, in my personal opinion, that programme focuses purely on bodies before the actual person, this is the main point of the show and what has made it stand out on TV. It's also one of the main reasons that it's gained such a huge following.

However, Simon made a valid point that a dating show has been pitched at the studio before, as we found speaking to previous students, but wasn't chosen. Why this was, we weren't sure, but we did note some of the issues with trying to make a dating show. The main issue we saw was contributors for the show. Usually, we would be looking for actors to come onboard to be presenters. However, with something like a dating show, we would require the public to come onboard and we would need a lot. For example, Take me Out has well over 50 contributors for the show to cover each episode.

An idea that Simon had, was to create a studio Sitcom. As far as we are aware, this has never been pitched as a Studio Production and we know we haven't made one at UCA for the Unit. This is a very original and different ideas and also, Sitcoms have been made for many third year projects for years on the course and we've all had experience working with a script and actors as well as structuring a story. This would be something which not only give the course a challenge with Live TV. But, also plays to the students strengths.
We agreed that a sitcom would be a good idea to go with and we thought about having it about friends as this is often the best way to work it as it has been done with Sitcoms such as The Big Bang Theory and Friends and also sitcoms which aren't within a studio environment such as Fresh Meat and Gavin & Stacey.
