My original proposal for Mike wasn't very clear and didn't have a structured narrative for a story. After Mike told me to research into the poem I found it was written to comfort a friend after they lost someone. The poem is to show that when you die, you're never really gone and you're always around people you love. Mike suggested to me that I show this with visuals and this is where my idea began to change and finally develop.
After looking through the sonnet, I decided to cut some lines and not use then in my adaptation.
1. "I am the diamond glints on snow"
I don't intend to use this because I won't be using snow in the film. Although this is looking at this line seriously and not looking in deeper I don't feel it's needed for the film and I can be more creative with the remaining sonnet.
2. "I am the sun on ripened grain"
This line I won't be using because I have a line for the line regarding morning hush which almost mixes them in together.
3. "Of quiet birds in circling flight"
I have tried to decide on ideas for this line but can't think of how I could do it. I had considered having people around the character Stacey but didn't see it working well enough.
Looking at my idea I've changed the story of the film to have 2 characters and a side character. We have Becky the grieving sister and Stacey the sister who has past away. Side character is the mother who will enter to change the way Sophie see's the lose.
I change the location of a graveyard to a field. Mike pointed out that a graveyard is a very clear indication of death and sadness and that isn't what I want the message of this film to be and it's not the intention of the sonnet either. So, I've changed it to a field where at the end of the story, Becky can scatter Stacey's ashes and Stacey is literally the winds that blow and she is all with the world.
What I've changed most about this story is that I've almost made it more about it's origins. So Becky is grieving over her sister. Through the story we see that Stacey is always there and is everywhere. Finally Becky after talking with her Mother excepts this and after holding onto them for months, finally decides to scatter her sisters ashes.
My visuals will be working with the lines for how I will show Stacey in scenes. This is where I'll need to really think and get creative.
