STUDIO PRODUCTION: CAMERA CHOICE

After doing the Mock up, George Lock and I found out that we did actually have 5 cameras for the Live Production, Del had only counted 4 operators but didn't see the role 'Lead Camera Operator' down for this years show. After discussing with George Lock, we talked about what we wanted, shot wise. In Melissa and Katie's original pitch, they wanted a Jib shot to start and end the show. When looking at the type of shots we wanted and the style of the programme, we couldn't see a reason to use the Jib other than the opening and the end of the show. After thoughts and discussion we decided to leave this and simply start the programme with a wide shot of the set and then end with the same as well.

Mel and Katie did ask us to consider the track for the show. I agreed this would work but only if the track can react across the entire set. When discussing with Ferg he told us that the track is about 8ft long, with the amount we wanted from the set we knew this wouldn't be long enough and we can't get anymore. However, we do have the option to have 3 cameras on Dolly wheels for the show and 2 on standard tripods which would work to give us those tracking shots if we wanted them.

Fashion Fails was the section where the camera work would become interesting. We knew we were going to go into the audience and thought, rather than having a camera simply turn around and shoot at the audience, why don'r we have the camera go into the audience? This year UCA TV Production got a new JVC Camera which we're told is a very professional TV camera. The camera is designed to allow ease when going handheld with the zoom and iris easy to reach and padding on the shoulder mount. Our main concern was whether the camera would match up with the Sony EX cameras that we are using for the studio production but agreed we wouldn't be able to know until our first run through with Del in the Studios.
