STUDIO PRODUCTION: FASHION (RESEARCH)

With making a Fashion Chat show, we need to ask... What is Fashion?

This is probably the biggest and most unanswerable question you could ask as there isn't a simple answer. Fashion (summarised) is a popular style of clothing/footwear/make-up/hairstyle which is used by multiple people so it becomes very popular. There is never one type of Fashion and trends and popular fashion styles will change for numbers of reasons such as time of year (seasons), up coming events (E.g. Fashion week, Fashion designers new release), celebrity fashion change, or it could be due to your interests. For example, shows which people watch will make them want to buy clothes with branding on them such as The Big Bang Theory, Marvel Films, Rick and Morty, etc. Music is a HUGE influence on Fashion as different genres of music will have many different styles.

Mainstream Fashion
Mainstream Fashion or 'Big Brand Fashion' is the highly promoted, big top selling Fashion which celebrities models, fashion shows and Londons Fashion Week (UK) Will always be promoting. This will change over and over due to Season change, new celebrity change and time of year. Big Fashion companies such as Vogue and Cosmopolitan. Below is an example of some of their work from Winter:

The colours of these outfits are what seems to stay with the Fashion companies. Winter goes for very simple and plain colours. Whereas with Summer or Spring they would probably go much more colourful, light and bright colours and more warm colours as well. As well as styling these Fashion trends, these companies also different styles such as Street Style, Vogue has a section on their website showing what is currently out in stores on the high street/the more common styles and fashion for every day people to wear.

Music influenced Fashion
Music is a HUGE influence on Fashion. With different genres of music brings different styles both with the musicians style and the style which fans will wear. For example:

Rock: This music tends to bring a lot of dark colours, leather jackets, jumpers/t-shirts with a jacket over it. Hairstyle being very rugged, messy and over grown. Shoes would often be boots or high top shoes such as converse but boots are the most likely. This look has been the same but just keeping updated with modern versions of the clothes since the 1960s. Below are some photos of The Stereophonics, Kings of Leon and Guns and Roses in these sort of outfits:

Heavy Metal: This is a much more heavy version of rock, lot of screaming and shouting with much more fast paced and loud music playing. Often you'll get musicians with lots of tattoos and piercings, lots of clothes ripped, big heavy leather jackets and lots of clothes and bracelets with studs on them. The trend has stayed around since the 1980s.
Pop: Pop music is very different to the last 2 genres. Much more colour and life in the outfits that musicians will wear, often making them stand out from others as to market themselves as a musician. Many woman in the pop industry will wear clothes which are rather revealing around the chest and below the hips, often thought as something producers encourage for the old saying "Sex sells" so to gain attention more. Other pop musicians will aim to really stand out such as Lady Gaga and Paloma Paith will stand out much more with their Fashion. Lady Gaga took this to another level as some of her Fashion trends below show:

However, as I said this is often a way for Musicians to stand out to the crowds and grab the audience attention. With all the talent around, they need something else to help them stand out from the rest of the crowd. Other musicians such as Robbie Williams, Olly Murs, Mika, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift don't so much do this and go with the more simple Pop fashion of bright colourful colours and simple outfits:

Media Fashion
With the popularity of TV/Films and Animations, branded clothing in itself is also a fashion statement. With Marvel having released over 18 films, Doctor Who being on Television for over 50 years, Breaking Bad voted the Greatest television series of all time and the popularity of shows such as The Big Bang Theory, Rick and Morty, The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones there are always hats, t-shits, hoodies, bags, etc being released to promote the series and fans will buy them up and wear them like there's no tomorrow. Media has a huge influence over Fashion without us even realising.

There are so many different types of Fashion and so many different things that can influence our Fashion. A personal example; back in 2008 I watched Doctor Who for the first time, I saw David Tennant as the Doctor wearing converse and so I wanted a pair. 10 Years later, Converse is still the only shoes I wear.
