DOCUMENTARY UNIT: FILMING IN LONDON AND TRAVELING TO BERLIN

One of the main aspects of this documentary we're planning is the disrespect towards the Holocaust. One of the main stories I found online was the project 'Yolocaust' by Shahak Shapira. Since was about young people taking disrespectful selfies are the memorial. After searching #holocaustmemorial on Instagram, we found these selfies taken there:

As well as much more. These photos of people climbing and being inappropriate at the memorial as still being uploaded to social media every day. However, we don't know why. These people clearly know where they are since they're used the hashtag but what are the reasons for putting these up there?
The Berlin Holocaust memorial has been in the heart of the German Capital since 12th May, 2005. It was designed by architect Peter Eiseman and Engineer Buro Happold. The memorial is large concrete blocks in rows going for over half a mile. The memorial is a huge tourist attraction in Berlin and underneath the Memorial is an exhibition, telling the history of the Holocaust. Since this is such an iconic location and so much of our topic does revolve around this area, we thought it would be best if we went and filmed here.

After discussing with Helen and Laura whether this was possible to go abroad to film, they explained that the equipment from University is insured for going abroad. We would have to fill out a 'Filming Abroad Risk Assessment' for each location we plan to use in Berlin. We would also need to ensure we all have valid European Health Insurance cards and ensure that all filming permission is given and signed off before flying out there. Once discussed with the group, Trine emailed the Memorial centre and requested filming permission.
They got back to us, telling us this wouldn't be an issue but we would need to give expect dates for permission to be given.

From this we've decided to go forward and travel to Berlin to film a section of our documentary.
