DOCUMENTARY UNIT: INTERVIEW SET UP AND PRACTICE

Since we needed to test how long it would take to set up for a 3 camera set-up with DSLR's, lighting and clip microphone to have 2 cameras covering the interviewee and one covering the presenter. Our aim main with this was to set up to the best possible way and find out how long these takes. We were thinking this about our interview with Shahak because we have such limited time with him.

The amount of kit we had to set up was:
- 3 Canon DSLR Cameras
- 3 Tripods
- 2 LED lights
- 1 Ring lens light
- 1 Zoom Audio Recorder
- 2 Clip Microphones

I timed how long it took each of us to set up. Since I'm on sound for our Documentary I did the set up for this test. We got 2 of our fellow students to be the interview. It took us a total of nearly 40 minutes to set up all the kit, sound check, camera set-up and lighting done. This was a lot shorter than we thought it would be and a good amount of time since that means we can allocate a time in the Production Schedule before each interview to set up and check all the visuals and audio before the interview.

We only had our classmates ask 2 questions since the practice was purely to see how long it takes to set up. However, we were also able to see from this practice how the DSLR's and clip microphones would look and sound in compassion to the Sony cameras and Rode Shotgun Microphones.

We much preferred the look of the DSLR Cameras and the clip microphones were the best choice for the sound. It was much clearer and they're really easy to use with the Zoom Recorder. All of us are confident DSLR Users and also, Trine owns a Canon 70D, I own a Canon 60D and we can borrow a Canon 7D from the University. Travel-wise these cameras are a lot lighter than the Sony's and we can't book out 3 Sony camera's at once but we can book out 1 of the Canon 7D's and use our own cameras as well.
As well as this we'll also be using the Clip Microphones and the Zoom recorder as I'm confident using both of these and they get high quality audio as well. We'll be borrowing 2 of the LED lighting kits as well to help better light the interviews as well.
