Today we pitched our documentary to Helen and Zoe. We pitched our idea, including our confirmed characters so far (Liam and Shahak Shapira) and we also included about 7-8 photos of people taking these sort of selfies at the Holocaust memorial which I found on Instagram the night before to help show that, even though Shahak's Yolocaust project brought awareness, there is still an issue with these selfies.
We explained that even though this is a huge issue with the world and it happens in many places. We have chosen to focus on the Holocaust Memorial because it's such an iconic and well known place and the Holocaust could be classed as the most well know and well documented parts of history. It's a part of World War 2 but it's also it's own separate part of history because of what happened.
We walked through our proposed locations as well as the interviews which we are currently waiting confirmation on. We also explained the style and why we have chosen a presenter rather than a voice narration as to fit in with the target audience and to have someone on screen they can relate to. With having a young presenter, it could be someone watching in a sense, it'll appeal better to them.
Our feedback for this pitch was similar to the feedback from our previous meeting with Zoe. Helen commented that our interviews are good but do we really need 2 experts? Also, would it not be better to focus a bit more on the social media aspect of this story? Since social media is one of the main issues here and actually we could just be blind because of how often we take selfies and photos and share them with our friends. We were also told that if we could, Holocaust Survivors would really help with the Documentary if we could get some to speak and get their opinions on this.
We were initially a bit 50/50 about this since we don't want to disrespect or insult people who have live through the survivors. But, after discussing it would really help to see what their opinions are, this they are most likely to take offence from this.
We all looked online for contacting Holocaust survivors and found 3 main sites to contact:
- Jewish Care
- Holocaust Educational Trust
- Holocaust Learning
All three sites are associations which care and help Holocaust Survivors, but also organise educational trips to schools and Universities for Students and other people to speak to survivors and hear their stories. We agreed to try and get in contact with some and George asked to take this task since a few of us have already taken on getting other people for the documentary.
