DIGITAL NEWS: SCRIPT FIRST DRAFT

When writing up the script for the programme, I tried to create it as an A/V Script through Celtx but it wouldn't format properly. So, with this version of the script I wrote the introduction to the programme and we tried to add in comedy. Since the target audience is students, we didn't want it to be formal and using proper and correct English like you get on BBC and ITV news, but wanted a bit more light hearted comedy and slang used in this and giving a much more fun presentation to the programme like Film Riot do. Below is the first draft.

Script Version 1

We wanted the opening to be something you could laugh at, something to make you giggle and straight away get you entertained. Each week on Film Riot, they say "This weeks episode is brought to you by..." and would continue with the sponsorship which has sponsored the channel. We decided we would parody that with the opening "This weeks episode is brought to you by crippling debt, something we all have". We found that the Student Loan debt is what almost all students will joke about since you end up in over £20,000 worth of debt and making light of it is a classic thing for students to do. We then explain the current story and the reason behind the bursary cuts so that the audience are aware of the story and have a bit of knowledge before going into the live broadcast.
After speaking to Simon, we agreed that we need to make some idents to use between certain scenes to cut to next sections and add in a bit of branding for the channel as well. I left the designing of this to Simon as we weren't too sure what to go with.

With the top tips we decided to go with Budgeting and from the UCAS survey that we were sent decided to go with:
- Mobile phone contracts
- Food shopping
- Eating out
- Travel
- Uni Days
The final one is the website UniDays which offers students more discounts that NUS cards and with much more interest as well. We also found that quiet a few students were't aware of this so we added it in as it is a good way to save money.

With the introduction to the budget gadgets, I wrote in a PTC but I found that this didn't really fit. We needed something slightly more original and entertaining. George came up with the idea that we set up a fake 'graduation' photo shoot where he would then throw off the hat and rope and give a PTC which we found worked really well and got a good laugh.
We then chose to have George reviewing the 2 DIY gadgets, holding the speaker and showing effectiveness of it. George then said it would be entertaining if we showed the audience that it was waterproof by making it look like he's coming out of the shower. We all couldn't have agreed more! So into the script it went! (obviously we did not intend to film George fully nude, we agreed he would have a tower and wet hair to look like he had come out of the shower)

With the LED lights, we agreed that all house parties are held in kitchens. We have no idea why but every house party me, Simon, Jack and George have been to, we've ended up standing and drinking in a kitchen. So we thought we would mock this and set this in a small kitchen, it would also help show the effect of the lights. We also added in making a quick "party" with the lights since that's the idea behind them.

With the DIY protector, we agreed to have footage of the projector being build. While this we need George to explain step by step how to set up the projector. At the end of this we wanted to show the projector working but felt this just wasn't interesting enough, so we went with another comedy style and we're to have him crying watching a film eating popcorn to add in some comedy.

Finally, with the outro we went with the classic style of YouTube having the presenter link in the social media accounts and then remind the audience to subscribe to the channel.

We added in a fair bit of comedy to the script and this is because we wanted the programme to be something that entertains students rather than just educate because it just wouldn't be something you would want to watch as it would just get more and more boring. It's why Film Riot is so successful, they add in entertainment and comedy and it gets them the views!
