DIGITAL NEWS: SHOOTING

Live interview
I wasn't able to make it to the Live interview due to work commitments. However, I had the feedback from my team mates. From what I've been told, the shoot did have a few issues. Due to getting the risk assessment signed off and getting kit, George and Jack arrived at the location late and because of this only had 20 minutes to get the interview done. However, Simon was also unavailable due to work so they were two team members down. They had technical difficulties with the clip microphone and could only get one as well. As well, with it being 12pm when they arrived it was rush hour and there was a large amount of noise and members of the public at the location so noise was an issue. However, they got the filming done. When we reviewed the footage, we found that the sound was an issue. The camera was very shaky and the vary of the shot was too much. Framing was off and our interviewee's audio was quite low.
However, we aren't able to re-film this due to the day she is next available is the day of our hand in. So, we know why this issue occurred and it is our own fault. We clearly weren't as prepared as we could have been. With 2 crew members down this seriously effected the interview. However, we may be able to save this in the edit.

First green screen shoot
Due to the Green Screen being booked out, we used my own personal green screen with my red head lighting. This set up worked but the green screen was smaller than the one at University but we worked around this. Lighting wasn't too hard as we were in a rather small space. Our main issue here was that we couldn't get the Auto Que set up as it was booked out, so we needed to do multiple takes as we had lost our presenter so Jack had stepped in. However, since we had taken a full day to film the 'studio' sections, this didn't effect our times that badly. We used the Panasonic cameras and a clip Microphone on Jack so our footage was clear and audio was good. We also filmed George's sections and we got him to do a voice over for the 'DIY Projector' section as well as him presenting it in front of the green screen so we have the option between presenting or voice over during the edit.

Top Tips and DIY Projector shoot
This was our longest day of shooting, having 2 different locations. Firstly, we filmed George building the projector. Our set up is to the right. We had the camera with the track going from side to side for some nice moving footage and we also set up my Go-Pro Hero 4 above George pointing down so we had more option to cut between. As well as having the Arri Lighting set it gave a really nice look and this section went smoother than ever. Really good footage came from this and because we already had the voice over we didn't need to worry too much about audio.
Next, we went on to set up the 'graduation shoot' with George and his robes. This part me and Simon walked through together while George went off with Jack and rehearsed his lines. Lighting was a slight issue here as when the camera tracks back, George moves away and then out of the light. So we had to have Jack stand behind Simon and follow with a spot light on George which worked really well. Then I came in with my full DSLR Set up to make it look like a real photo shoot and I moved behind George when he moves forward to make it look more realistic and give some movement in the background.

Once we'd finished at the Studios, we moved over to George's house. Here, we didn't have a lighting kit as it was booked for another group but we did have Simon's own lights which helped us. Since the locations room were all quite small and cramped, lighting became a bit of an issue but we worked around it. This part became harder and harder as again, we had to do multiple takes with Jack and George but they are not presenters and we did expect this.

We set up the LED lights and the 'projector play' without any issues and used a simple little light to make the sketch of George watching a film and crying. The LED's worked and we had George's flat mates to create a 'party' for us which worked really well.

This shoot did take us the entire day but I think it worked well. We got everything filmed. We didn't have any issues and I ticked off everything off the script as we went along so we knew what we had filmed and had left to film.

Reshoots
When we got into the editing stage, we found that a few of the green screen clips had Jack's hands and arms going out of frame which we couldn't edit around. We also had to add in a new section with Jack (refer to Editing post for this) so we had no choice but to reshoot the Green screen. Although this was an inconvenience, we were able to get this all set up and shot effectivly without too many issues and we felt it would help the production more and was definitely needed.
